Study: Business creation has fallen since 1978

The pace of business creation decreased significantly between 1978 and 2011, according to research from the Brookings Institution. The data also indicate that from 2009 to 2011, businesses shut down faster than new ones were created. If the trend continues, there could be "a continuation of slow growth for the indefinite future," the study says.
