S.C. employers nervous about new hiring bill

The South Carolina House of Representatives will vote today on a Senate-approved bill to punish state businesses that knowingly hire illegal immigrants. The bill would add a paper-based system for verifying workers' credentials and impose fines of up to $10,000 for failure to comply. Farmers complain the law will only add confusion to the already burdensome federal hiring requirements.
