"Big Three" rating agencies still hold plenty of power

Moody's, Standard & Poor's and Fitch Ratings, the "Big Three" credit rating agencies, continue to wield much authority over financial markets despite their role in the financial crisis. Authorities in the U.S. and Europe are considering measures to rein in the agencies, but investors and other market participants might need to consider their alternatives.
