White House budget includes cuts in construction spending

A budget proposed this week by President Barack Obama will cut construction programs by $1.5 billion, according to an estimate by Engineering News-Record. Under the proposal, the Health and Human Services Department and the Transportation Department will experience the largest cuts in construction funding. The EPA would also lose $145 million in funds for water infrastructure. Meanwhile, Ken Simonson, chief economist at AGC, noted that the stimulus package had not allowed the industry to recover all the jobs lost during the housing slump.
