Evaluating the accuracy of miles-per-gallon stickers on cars

Research suggests that, in Europe, cars may get much worse fuel economy in the real world than their advertising would indicate. In the U.S., the Department of Transportation's fuel-economy figures may not be very accurate, but the Environmental Protection Agency does a pretty good job of judging how many miles per gallon a car will get.
