CFPB investigation prompts civil and criminal complaints

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau has filed civil complaints against Mission Settlement Agency and Premier Consultant Group, accusing them of fraudulent telemarketing sales centered on claims of reducing consumer debt by negotiating with credit card companies and banks. In related action, the Justice Department has charged Mission, its owner and three employees, alleging that they defrauded customers. It's the first time the DOJ has filed criminal charges based on a CFPB referral.
