German factory orders surprise with strong gain in March

Germany factory orders were up 2.2% in March, matching the previous month's gain and surprising economists who had projected a decline. The improvement gives "reason to hope not only that German industry will emerge from its trough, but also that the euro area could be on the brink of an economic recovery, even if only a moderate one," said Heinrich Bayer, an economist at Deutsche Postbank.
