Small study compares sutures' effects on scarring

Lesion excision sites sutured with poly-4 hydroxybutyrate had a mean scar spread of 0.9 millimeters at 12 months, compared with 3.2 mm for polyglactin 910 sutures, in a split-scar, randomized trial reported in JAMA Dermatology. However, the complication rate was higher with longer-acting, absorbable P4HB sutures in the 22-patient study, researchers report.
