Oil spill prevention is a global issue that needs collaborative effort among countries, Christopher Smith, principal deputy assistant secretary at the Department of Energy, said during a discussion at the Offshore Technology Conference. Governments and operators should resolve disputes over territorial boundaries, particularly in the Arctic region, and nations need to communicate technological updates and best practices to drive efficiency in this challenge, he said.
