FTC probes data sharing by fitness apps, wearable devices

The Federal Trade Commission has discovered that 12 mobile fitness applications shared user data, including location and types of exercise completed, with third parties. The FTC probe found that usernames and e-mail addresses were also shared in select cases. The FTC has voiced concerns that shared data could infringe on user health privacy, particularly when certain negative health conditions are revealed.
