Columbus, Ohio, GOP mulls gay candidate

Although the Ohio Republican Party turned off gay voters with a ballot initiative restricting marriage rights, party officials in Franklin County are considering an olive branch in the form of an out candidate for Columbus City Council. The gay vote may be up for grabs, as some Democrats are dismayed that openly gay council member Mary Jo Hudson, who retired to take a job in the governor's administration, was not succeeded by another openly gay official.
