Writing helps students integrate knowledge

After months of preparing for standardized tests by memorizing facts and formula, middle-school science teacher Anthony Cody is turning to creative writing this month. These papers help his science students put their learning into context as well as stretch their creative muscles. "One year I had them write science fiction stories describing travel to another planet in our solar system," Cody says.
