Studies find additional uses for metformin

Researchers are finding uses for metformin beyond diabetes management. A three-year study in the U.K. is looking at whether giving the drug to morbidly obese pregnant women can help prevent heavier babies. Meanwhile, a Texas study in rats and cell cultures found metformin might prevent and treat uveitis, an eyeball inflammation that can lead to blindness.
