Barangaroo South: Sydney's large-scale carbon-neutral development

The nearly $6.1 billion Barangaroo South project in Sydney, Australia, could become an icon of sustainability with its aim "to provide a replicable model for the rest of the construction sector to reduce the life-cycle impact of buildings," said Anita Mitchell, general manager of sustainability for Lend Lease, which has development rights to the project. To meet the mixed-use project's goals, several sustainable principles are being implemented, including efficient design and use of less-carbon-intensive materials and other greener products. The project, which includes office and residential towers, a hotel, retail and community facilities, is scheduled to be completed in 2022.
