Calif. allots $301M for 72 public transit upgrades

A total of 72 projects to upgrade public transit in California will be funded with $301 million, according to the state transportation department. "These projects give Californians a viable alternative to using their cars," said Caltrans Director Malcolm Dougherty. "Public transit reduces traffic congestion and protects the environment by lowering greenhouse gas emissions."
