Experts find high retinopathy rates in adolescents with diabetes

Data presented at the Pediatric Endocrine Society annual meeting revealed 13.7% of type 2 diabetes patients ages 10 to 17 had developed retinopathy at 2 to 6.5 years' follow-up. Researchers said the prevalence of retinopathy in patients with lower A1C levels was 4.7%, while those in the middle and higher tertiles had retinopathy rates of 12.4% and 25%, respectively.
