Readmission rates influenced by pediatric nurse staffing ratios

Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4 or less were tied to lower rates of pediatric readmissions within 15 to 30 days, according to a study in the journal BMJ Quality & Safety. For every one-patient increase in the staffing ratio, the risk of readmission for medical patients increased by 11% and for surgical patients by 48%.
