Sanford surges to victory in S.C. congressional race

Former South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford cemented his political comeback Tuesday night with a convincing 9-point victory over Democratic rival Elizabeth Colbert Busch. The victory in the special election for the state's 1st Congressional District seat, a win which came despite Sanford being outspent 5-to-1 by Colbert Busch and her supporters, suggests that Sanford's combination of experience, hard work and folksy charm was enough to overcome the questionable behavior in his past.
