BT issues strong fiscal Q4 report on fiber, sports investments

BT boosted its dividend by 15% and reported higher fiscal fourth-quarter profits today, as the U.K. telecom's bet on securing pricey soccer packages has apparently paid off in the way of increased broadband and TV subscriptions. The carrier also cited its large investment in fiber-optic networks, noting that the high-speed broadband service passes 19 million homes. Also, BT and O2 have extended their wholesale network agreement, which supports O2's business services effort.
