Davisco exec: Elderly prove to be tough sell for whey protein

Marketing the benefits of whey protein to an elderly demographic can prove to be difficult, despite the nutritional ingredient's mainstream position in the market, according to Polly Olson, vice president of business development, sales and marketing for Davisco Foods International. Doctors and dietitians play an important role in marketing whey protein as a beneficial ingredient for healthy aging to elderly consumers who are not able to access Internet-based education sources, she said. "So the role of the doctors and the dietitians in advising them about protein is really key," Olson said.
