NIH classroom serves pediatric patients

A classroom in the pediatric unit of the NIH Clinical Center in Bethesda, Md., offers instruction to patients from kindergarten to 12th grade. Two teachers from the local school system work with as few as five or as many as 14 students on any given day, and the classroom is also equipped to connect students via Skype with other classrooms around the world. "It contributes to their care as these young patients aren't forced to choose between falling behind in their education or their treatment," said Clincal Center director John Gallin.
