The final price for Boston's massive Big Dig project could reach $14.95 billion, an increase of $333 million over the last estimate and nearly six times the original $2.6 billion estimate, made in 1985, but at least officials are finally being straight with the public about the project's costs, say the authors of this editorial. And for all the billions spent on the project, the Big Dig remains "a monument to shoddy construction, corruption and inadequate oversight," they write.
