Mass. governor proposes $1.25 billion biotech initiative

Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick proposed the state invest $1.25 billion in biotechnology as a challenge to California's $3 billion initiative for stem cell research. Patrick proposed the plan in a speech before the BIO International Convention, saying his Massachusetts Life Science Initiative also would create a stem cell bank to house all new lines created in laboratories in the state, offering a type of lending library to all scientists.
