Microsoft puts priority on getting handsets to poor

A change in leadership at a Microsoft unit centered on spreading information technology to the developing world has led to the company's shifting focus from low-end laptops and shared computing to putting mobile phones in the hands of the poor around the globe. The company will base much of its hopes on a prototype in the pipeline known as Fone+, according to company officials who stress there is no timetable for executing the plan.
