GERD patients get comparable results with surgery, PPIs

Proton pump inhibitors may work as well as laparoscopic surgery for treating chronic gastroesophageal reflux disease, researchers said. The study found 92% of patients taking esomeprazole or Nexium were in remission after five years compared with 85% of those who had surgery.
