Humphrey granddaughter who became a symbol for the disabled dies

Vicky Solomonson, who had Down syndrome and whose relationship with her late grandfather -- former Vice President Hubert H. Humphrey -- aided the cause of people with disabilities, died Thursday at 49. Solomonson's parents decided to raise her at home rather than place her in an institution, and her parents and grandparents advocated for an increased focus on special-needs programs and equality for people with disabilities.
