Study examines children's snack habits

Researchers who tracked snacking by 167 fourth- and fifth-graders over 24 hours found that they consumed on average about 300 calories from low-nutrient food and 45 calories from fruits and vegetables. Factors might include children skipping breakfast, having more control over snack choices than meal choices and finding low-nutrient food less filling, researchers said.
