Study: Telehealth reduces psychiatric hospitalization of patients

Offering telemental health services to rural residents lessens the rates of psychiatric hospitalizations, according to a study led by Dr. Linda Godleski, director of the VA's National Telemental Health Center. The study, which used a performance improvement dashboard developed by the VA to examine nationwide clinical results, found inpatient admissions of patients who used telemental health services were reduced by an average of 24.2% over the four-year research period.
