Deficit fixes are holding back the economy, experts say

The U.S. economy would have grown by two points more than it did this year, and unemployment rates would be about a point lower, had the government not slashed spending and raised taxes, say private-sector and government economists. "Fiscal tightening is hurting," says Ian Shepherdson, chief economist of Pantheon Macroeconomic Advisors.
