When change pays off

Shook Construction of Ohio and Indiana, like other construction companies across the country, found that the recession caused challenges. But Shook faced those head on and decided to redirect its company strategy. It began to focus "in specific market channels and soliciting work in a wide geographic region," said Ken Herr, vice president of corporate development. "Those specific market channels include health care, industrial, mission critical [data center], water resource and education market channels." The result? The company has booked over $280 million in new contracts since January.
