Math teachers let needs, not textbooks, drive class

Setting aside seven-year-old textbooks, some Texas teachers recently switched to an online math curriculum to get a better read on what students know and what needs to be targeted in terms of classroom instruction. "A big push is to get away from instruction being textbook-driven to needs-driven," said Joy H. Philpott, San Marcos High School academic dean.
