Arkansas sees spike in heartworm disease cases

A number of pets in Jonesboro, Ark., have tested positive for heartworm disease, triggering a concern among pet owners and veterinarians in the state. A local veterinarian said that even dogs that are on preventives are not immune to the disease. Heartworm scientists reportedly have been gathering blood and mosquito samples to investigate the problem.
