New Jersey grapples with insufficient funding for statewide HIE

Federal funding for establishing health information exchanges might not be enough for states such as New Jersey, which has "zero capital and zero taxpayer funds available" for the HIE initiative, said Bill O'Byrne, the state's eHIT Development coordinator. While the state already has four regional HIEs in place, more funding from payers and the private sector is needed for a connected statewide system, he said.
