Teva and Baxter plan to appeal $500 million propofol penalty

Teva Pharmaceutical Industries and Baxter International said they intend to contest a verdict demanding that their subsidiaries pay $500 million for "product misuse related to unsafe clinical practices" involving the sedative propofol. The lawsuit alleges that vials of the anesthetic were reused in health clinics, causing a hepatitis C outbreak in Nevada.
