A number of social tools are emerging to help people interact with their social contacts in a more focused way. Rather than blasting a message to all their Facebook friends, some users now maintain niche networks of close friends on sites such as Path and event-planning tool Shizzlr. "The larger social networks have certainly become more loose-tie networks of acquaintances. But the way we communicate with acquaintances is very different from how we communicate with friends," investor Mo Koyfman says.
