Firm explores ways to preserve defunct museum in MoMA expansion

Diller Scofidio + Renfro has been selected by the Museum of Modern Art for its expansion as it rethinks the demolition of the American Folk Art Museum's former home in New York. One possibility would involve integrating the six-floor building into the planned expansion. The design firm requested "time and latitude to carefully consider the entirety of the site, including the former American Folk Art Museum building, in devising an architectural solution to the inherent challenges of the project," said MoMA Director Glenn Lowry.
