Forced BYOD and the shifting balance of corporate power

Emerging bring-your-own-device strategies are blurring the boundaries between work and personal communications, creating well-documented security challenges, but less discussed is how forcing workers to acquire and use their own devices for corporate business is shifting the balance of workplace power in favor of the employee. Commentator Galen Gruman writes that unlike a uniform or company car, mandating that employees store company data on their own devices makes them de facto free agents, forcing companies to relinquish control over information management, process management, process ownership and information ownership.
