The rising demand for residential construction is starting to outpace the number of workers available for the job, according to some home builders. The shortage of workers was caused by those who left the industry after the housing downturn. Trade associations such as the Associated General Contractors of America are calling for states to provide training programs for construction workers to encourage more people to join the trades in the future. "There's been pretty consistent news coverage about the fact that there are no jobs in construction," said Brian Turmail, a spokesman for the AGC. "More broadly, we have a message that says: 'If you want to be successful, you have to go to college.'"
