Primary care improves outcomes in addiction treatment, experts say

Addiction specialists said working with primary care physicians in an integrated care model can lead to better patient outcomes. Judith Martin, M.D., of the San Francisco Department of Public Health, said the patient-centered medical home model is useful in an addiction treatment setting because it provides a long-term patient-provider relationship, team care and a holistic view of medicine.
