Study: Functional bowel disorders common in early pregnancy

A study of 104 pregnant women found 75% had one or more functional bowel disorders, such as irritable bowel syndrome, bloating, diarrhea or constipation, during the first trimester, Loyola University researchers reported at the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists annual meeting. Constipation and bloating most affected quality of life, the study found.
