Study: Medicaid pharmacy modernization could ease budget pressures

Medicaid could save $74.4 billion over the coming decade by using a more flexible formulary approach that encourages the use of generic drugs and reining in dispensing fees, a Menges Group study found. "[M]ost state Medicaid programs make too little use of the tools Medicare, unions, and employers rely on to curb wasteful pharmacy spending," PCMA said in a statement.
