Clues helping scientists detect, possibly prevent disease

Scientists are having success in finding markers for disease that can determine a person's risk years before any symptoms develop and hope preventive therapies can be developed to ward off diseases before they strike. Progress has been made in research with autoimmune diseases, and scientists say they hope findings can one day help stop the development of diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and diabetes.
