BPA ban considered in Schenectady County, N.Y.

Officials in Schenectady County, N.Y., are to consider this week a proposed ban on the sale of products containing bisphenol A. The director of the Institute for Health and Environment at State University of New York at Albany said the chemical may affect male reproduction and increase the risk of breast cancer, but Steve Hentges of the American Chemistry Council disagreed. "Regulatory agencies and government bodies across the world have reached a consensus about the safety of BPA," Hentges said. "Many assessments support the same conclusions, that it is not a significant risk to human health."
