The new retractable roof on the Dallas Cowboys' stadium takes just nine minutes to go from open to closed. The roof's rack-and-pinion system was developed specifically for the stadium. "When you're up there and seeing all that steel move, it looks like it's moving pretty fast," said Justin Waldron, project engineer for Uni-Systems, which built the system that moves the panels. He also noted that the roof's slope was nearly double the maximum slope the company has dealt with on previous jobs.
