Downturn tests merits of infrastructure investments

The financial crisis and ensuing economic downturn have tested the claims of modern finance, including infrastructure investment. The assumption that investments in airports, roads and other infrastructure are relatively immune to the economic cycle is not necessarily true. Additionally, enthusiasm for infrastructure investments has created a pair of vulnerabilities related to leverage and an expansion of the asset class.
