Angry about a U.S. investigation into barriers to agricultural exports to India, the Indian Commerce Ministry initiated its own investigation into U.S. "nontariff barriers to Indian exports." Gopal Pillai, the country's commerce secretary, said the U.S. uses "subtle, sophisticated" techniques to block competition from Indian agricultural producers.
