After a slow start, Facebook has prospered in France, taking share from homegrown social networks such as Skyrock. The number of social-network users in France will pass 20 million this year, accounting for more than 50% of Internet users there, according to eMarketer. "Many social networkers in France are still in the relatively early stages of establishing their identities in online communities -- probably because Facebook and other social networks have been slower to catch on there than in many other countries," said eMarketer senior analyst Karin von Abrams.
