Wind farm planned in Gulf; plan threatens migratory birds

Texas officials say they plan to build what will be the nation's largest offshore wind farm including a 40,000-acre span of 400-foot-tall turbines off the Padre Island seashore. The project should generate enough energy to power 125,000 homes, but environmentalists say there couldn't be a worse location for the site, which is in the middle of a critical migratory bird flyway.
