New Microsoft player mixes IM with video downloads

Microsoft has released Messenger TV, a player designed to help the company reap more Internet advertising by combining its Windows Live instant-messaging functions with those of a video player. Set for an initial launch in Europe, the new service will allow users to view and share clips from among such outlets as MTV Networks, U.K.'s Channel Four and music companies EMI Group and Sony BMG.
