Federal government evaluates seismic safety of Oregon dam

Concerns about a possible earthquake have prompted the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation to evaluate the safety of Oregon's Scoggins Dam. Scientists recently learned there is possibility of a magnitude 9.0 earthquake along the fault that runs under the dam. The study's results are likely to influence a plan to raise the height of the dam by 40 feet.
